POTJIE’S KAROO SPICE

My hart is affie plaas
waar son, wind en stilte my speelmaats was

– Potjie Geldenhuys

Founded in 1948 by Potjie Geldenhuys’ father, Geldenhuys Butchery carries a rich legacy. The original shop opened at 20 Voortrekker Street in Prince Alfred’s Hamlet, later relocating to its current address at 16 Voortrekker Street. Eventually, Potjie Geldenhuys took over the family business.

Potjie’s mother, Malie Geldenhuys, was a true Karoo farmwoman. She taught Potjie a great deal about meat. As the owner of the butcher shop, he often had to supply meat for various festivals, school events, and more.

To provide convenience, he decided to offer pre-seasoned meat and, with his mother’s expertise, developed an authentic Karoo spice recipe that is now enjoyed worldwide.
